Nodal staging of rectal cancer is a critical element in the accurate staging of disease
and for selection of appropriate treatment options (

). The work by Wang et al., entitled “Diagnostic Efficiency of Diffusion Sequences
and a Clinical Nomogram for Detecting Lymph Node Metastases from Rectal Cancer” attempts
to assess and quantify if diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) can be used to determine
if lymph nodes (LNs) are pathologic in rectal cancer as well as which DWI models may
be most helpful in this differentiation of pathologic from non-pathologic (
