Experts are extraordinary individuals that are experienced, respected, and exceptionally
skilled in their fields of interest. To be considered an expert academic radiologist,
one must excel at accurately interpreting imaging studies, conduct impactful research,
and be a skilled educator, colloquially known as the “triple threat.” Radiology training
during residency and fellowship focuses primarily on developing proficiency in the
imaging evaluation and image-guided procedures, with few radiologists receiving formal
training in teaching or educational theory (

). Therefore, becoming an expert radiology educator is a challenge that takes strong
individual motivation as well as years, if not decades, of practice. By applying the
principles of “deliberate practice,” an evidence-based strategy to improve performance,
radiologists can more effectively and efficiently improve their teaching skills in
the pursuit of expertise. To read this article in full you will need to make a payment
