We read with great interest the guest editorial by Magid “Preserve That Narrative!
Supporting and Differentiating Applicants in an Increasingly Distanced and Stressful
World”(

), and commend the author for bringing to the fore such an important topic, especially
for international medical graduates (IMGs) who look forward to participating in the
Radiology Residency ERAS application process. The article analyzes the three components
of residency application in the United States and how they are often problematic,
particularly when applied to minorities such as doctors of osteopathy (DO's) and IMGs.
The trio addressed in the article is based on the USMLE STEP 1 score, which has changed
since it became pass/fail and likely transmits this responsibility to USMLE STEP 2,
Letter of Recommendation (LOR), and Medical Student Performance Evaluation. The aforementioned
three elements present a significant obstacle for IMGS, particularly in light of the
